Naturalism
Alexander von Humboldt
A naturalist, infographic creator, and adventurer, he viewed nature holistically, laying the foundations for modern ecology. Among his most notable contributions is the diagram known as Naturgemälde, which depicts the distribution of plants on the Chimborazo volcano (Ecuador) at different altitudes. This diagram includes the names of the plants in the areas where he observed them, along with data tables on gravity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and chemical composition of those locations, revealing the relationships between climatic factors and plant distribution. He also developed a deep understanding of the Earth's geological structure, providing us with stunning infographics of various volcanoes that illustrate the connections between seismic activity, the landscape, and the Earth's crust.
